Our next stop was Brussels, Belgium.
Our goal was to visit Waterloo and we did. That was fascinating.
This is where Napoleon met his end!! (Where he met his "Waterloo")
This battle took place in 1815 against the Duke of Wellington from England.
We saw the Duke of Wellington's headquarters and then went out to the battlefield. It was impressive. 9500 men were killed and 20,000 were injured.
A memorial to the dead was built about five years later - Lion's Hill. This is the spot where the Prince of Orange (Duke Wellington's son) was injured and died in battle.
The battlefields have been preserved and they even plant them and harvest them every year. Very impressive.
We climbed the steps (226 of them!!) to the top and what a view
We saw a large panarama of the battle and also took a ride around the battlefield.
Next stop Paris......
