NO Kidding - -we are really in Venice.
I guess I have to admit to our little error when we arrived in Venice at almost 10:00 PM last night -we had instructions to walk out of the train station and we would be facing The Grand Canal. We did - and no water in sight!! WHAT!! We knew it was dark, but.....
So I looked and behold we had gotten off at the wrong train station!! Oh, me!
So we went back into the station - inquired and sure enough - (hand signals - go there and in 10 minutes the train to St. Lucia would be there - hmmmm - with three tracks....which one to be on. We climbed up and down (you go underground to get to the tracks!!) No one on that track....must be wrong - I left Sam and ran back down and up and finally found the right one just in time to get on the train.
Whew - we are learning ..... with hearts pounding.
Remember we only have ONE small carry-on but even then it gets heavy. Yes, that is why you will see the same outfits over and over!!
So we came out the train station AGAIN and THERE WAS THE GRAND CANAL - 150 yards down and turn left 100 more yards to our hotel.
Oh, you might remember this little tidbit - there are NO washclothes in the hotels. If you travel to Europe bring your own washcloth. The towels in Italy are TEA TOWELS - yes the bath towels are thin like my tea towels at home!!
And....need to go to the restroom - they are toilettes here and are few and far between and they cost!
I paid 1.50 euros today which is about $1.75!! YIKES
We got a day pass on a Vaporette and road it down the Grand Canal to San Marco Square
